Visual Communications lecturer Hilary Kenna has won major NDRC funding for a two-year digital technology research project, DViz, which will start in February 2009.
“Landing a project of this significance in digital technology research is a major achievement for Hilary and IADT. It is the biggest research project that IADT has won to date and typifies the kind of interdisciplinary collaboration that is inherent in IADT's mission of creativity, technology and enterprise,” Sean Larkin, Head of the School of Creative Arts, said.
The title of the research project is DViz or Data Visualisation Intelligence and the research consortium includes Hilary Kenna IADT, Gabrielle Stafford (Twelve Horses) commercial partner and Dr. Aaron Quigley, UCD.
Dviz is a real-time online platform for statistical data visualisation. The project will focus on the creation of an email marketing data visualisation platform, that sits between the user and their statistical data. The ultimate goal is for the Dviz platform is to enable any non-database literate users to query, track and monitor their statistical data in real-time using an intuitive visual interface. The resultant dynamic visualisations can then be used to investigate causal relationships within the data and, to influence decision and policy making with evidence based conclusions. 22 January 2009
